Diagnostic Tests

WebALT offers a comprehensive set of exercises based on high-school mathematics. From this material we provide
diagnostic test for further education in various subject ares. The exercises have:

• Various problem types: multiple choice, open anser, fill in blanks, etc.
• Illustrative graphs and images
• Exercises are generated from a template where numeric values change each time giving a different version of the exercise every time
• In most of the exercises the answer can be a mathematical expression which the system can interpret

Goals

Diagnostic testing is an important tool in further education to assess the basic mathematical skill of the incoming students. The background math education and therefore the understanding of methods varies a lot in students. Diagnostic testing helps to design the teaching, dividing students into groups according to their individual learning needs, and advice for remedial studies.

WebALT Diagnostic Tests in Practice

The diagnostic test can be used directly with a web browser

1. the student starts the test by logging in
2. writes down the answer to each question
3. after finishing the grade will be given immediately even with feedback comprising of complete solutions

Because the parameters in each question are different, each student has a different version of the similar question type.
